Commission rules in Victoria

In Victoria, agents are regulated by Consumer Affairs Victoria, and your agreement with the agent is called a sales authority.

Before you sign, the agent must tell you that commission and expenses are negotiable. The sales authority must state the agreed commission and expenses as a dollar amount or a percentage. If commission is a percentage, the agent must also give an example of the dollar amount it represents.

Exclusive sales authorities commonly run for 90 days and generally cannot be cancelled during that time unless the agent agrees.
